Hand Crafted, Stave Built Djembes and Ashikos.
GoldLine Drums repurposes wood whenever possible. We have two series of drums made from repurposed wood: The Mica and the School House.
School House Series
This school was constructed in 1908. In 2010 the building was renovated to be used as a community facility. Several rooms in the school had wainscoting, but one in particular had some very good old fir tongue and groove boards. This is the wood used in the School House Series. It is a limited collection of djembes and ashikos. The drums from this wood have a very happy sound, particularly the ashikos. There will be 7 drums made from this wood. Currently there is a matched set of School House Ashikos being constructed and should be available summer 2013.
Mica Series
The wood for this series came from church pews. It is oak and was milled 40 years ago. This wood has a very complex tone range. These drums are performance drums for the more experienced drummer. It is a limited edition collection of drums. At this time only djembes are being made from this supply. The range will be between 12-14 inch heads.
Dawn Series
These are pine drums. The boards are hand selected vertical grain BC pine. The series name came from the fact that these are the drums I reach for when I am playing in the morning. They have a very mellow sound, are light weight, and are excellent beginner drums. The pine is used to construct both Djembes and Ashikos, and a new model will be available summer of 2013--the Backpacker. The Backpacker will be a scaled down Ashiko, light and ready to travel.
